in honor of labor day, here’s a favorite quote of mine from eugene debs, a labor leader from indiana who figures prominently in kurt vonnegut’s (also from indiana) work:

“While there is a lower class I am in it; while there is a criminal element I am of it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”
