thanks to justin; got my iphone this morning. seems cool; screen looks great. activation not so much. i’m pretty sure that to keep the iTunes activation UI really simple (which is was), they didn’t deal with a lot of edge cases. we’ve got a family plan, plus i’ve got a blackberry-oriented plan — i think that at&t’s simple system couldn’t figure it out, so it got booted into a human queue, no doubt off-shored somewhere. been a couple of hours now — we’ll see how long the wait goes.
Nothing quite as painful sitting around looking at your $600 paperweight and twiddling your thumbs. My verizon switchover took 8 hours, but definetly worth it! (Posting from my phone)

Well over 700 comments already. Lots of very angry people. Some have already waited 36 hours or more for their phones to be blessed. I feel especially sorry for the die hard fans who waited in line all day on Friday, left the Apple store like a kid on Christmas morning, and are *still* waiting for the damn thing to start up.
And Apple’s decision to brick all features on the iPhone until it’s activated certainly isn’t helping the situation… another place where a bit of consideration for the edge cases would have been a good idea…
