I have the 1st generation iPhone that I received new in Feb 2008. My battery has not been keep a normal charge as of July 11, when I downloaded the recent firmware 2.0. I thought because I downloaded 10+ applications I was draining the battery. I accepted it as I was testing out the different applications. Now that I am a little over downloading applications I have noticed the last two days that my battery will not keep a charge. Yesterday, my phone was fully charged at 8am and by 1pm it was at 20% and I never once touched my phone from 9a-1. Today the same thing, although at 1pm my phone was completely dead and off.

I have been charging with the block and it takes forever for it to charge and gets really warm. I just got done reading all the post on this blog and have plugged my iPhone into my computer with an old USB ipod charger. It has been plugged in for about 20 minutes now and seems to bee charing and not warm at all. Hope this works.

My problem is that the battery discharges itself even when the phone is off. It's ridiculous!

hey again,

to let you all know and help reduce some stress this method worked for me, now it has been 9 hours and the battery still looks 100% for me.

turn of wifi and ask to join network options as well as the phone and put it for a good charge ( over night for me) and most likely you'll be okay, i haven't tested which is the main problem. wifi or the network but its one of these two, perhaps both.

hello, i also have had this problem for the past 3 days, noticing how fast it drains the battery charge and how it heats up. i just went to the setting--usage, and noticed that it says 7 h 30 m usage and 1 h 30 standby since the last full charge while it should be vise versa. turning off the network option and wifi option when not using those options should help and try restarting the iphone before putting it to charge.

i turned of wifi and ask to join network options and turned it off and put if on charge for 35 min... the charge bar went to 50% and it has remained there for the past 3 hours although i used it to test any difference by watching videos and talking on the phone.

the good news is that it is not a hardware issue and it is temporary. apple is working on this BUG, as i read on different websites and soon they'll take care of it with their next software update.

moreover, many ppl's iphones just went back to norm after a week or so.

so dont be tooooo worried.

cheers

Ha! been looking for a site with this on for a few weeks, i have just RMA'd my iphone as it wouldnt charge, then miraculously it did the next day, then it drained and whenever I went to charge it it would register as charging but do nothing, an then it just died, meaning I could do nothing with it. Luckly its a little virgin iphone and is at factory settings still will let eveyone know the outcome in 14 days.....!!!!! 14 flipping days for a turn around!

OKIE GUYS... MY IPHONE IS BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN!!! LOL YEAH,CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? IT HAD BEEN HAVING THOSE STUPID PROBLEMS FOR THE LAST 10 DAYS ... COULDNT TURN THE PHONE OFF, BATTERY WAS DRAINING OUT SO FAST [OUT IN LIKE 1 DAY]... SO I TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD FIND ON THE INTERNET: RESETED THE PHONE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL [BTW,IM USING AN UNLOCKED ONE] , BLEW OUT DUST IN THE THING [BY MOUTH ,GOD EXHAUSTED] ,CHARGED THE PHONE DIRECTLY AND THROUGH THE PC ALSO..NOTHING SEEMED TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION..SO I GAVE UP... BUT THEN THIS IS HOW "MIRACLE" HAPPENED... SINCE NOTHING ELSE I COULD DO, I DECIDED TO JUS ACCEPT THE HURTFULL FACT AND START CHARGING IT REGULARLY..LIKE WHEN THE BATTERY WAS ABOUT LOWER THEN 50% AND I KNEW I WAS GONNA BE OUT THE WHOLE DAY,I CHARGED IT WHILE I GOT READY [FOR LIKE 45MINS I THINK ,THEREFORE THE BATTERY HAD NEVER GOT TO BE FULL] ... I HAVE DONE THAT THREE TIMES SO FAR, AND DROPPED IT ONCE ACCIDENTLY [NOT SO HARD THOUGH] ...THIS MORNING AT 9:00AM ,MY PHONE WAS ONLY AT ABOUT 35%, SO I CHARGED IT FOR 30MINS... I NOTICED THAT UP UNTIL NOW ,WHICH IS 1:05AM THE NEX DAY AND 16HRS AFTER ,IT'S IS STILL AROUND THAT LEVEL [ LIKE 25-30%] WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN OUT !! NOT TO MENTION THATI HAD USED IT TO MAKE SOME PHONE CALLS AND LISTEN TO MUSIC DURING THE DAY!! UNBELIEVABLE !! I KNOW IT'S KINDA WIERD RITE?
Yesterday I dropped my fully charged iphone onto pavement, it was about a 3ft. drop, luckily the faceplate, camera, mic, and speakers were apparently undamaged. But low and behold at the end of the day (3hrs later) the phone was very hot and at the dreaded 10% battery point. I was alittle afraid at the time, but also noticed that my youtube browser had been open as well as the wifi all day and thought that this was perhaps the reason.

Well, that night I recharged my phone, after charging all night, and taking MUCH longer to charge than it should have, it looked fully charged in the morning. After being on standby all day it was ONCE AGAIN at below 10%! I went online and googled "Dropped my iphone battery problems" and found this board. I tried restarting my phone, powering it down, resetting ALL general settings, even a phone restore. Then I recharged my phone overnight. This time it seemed to charge as it should, 4hrs total, 2 hours to 80% and the other 2 hours to 100%. Well when I left today at about 11:00AM the charge was full, then later today (about 2:30pm-ish) my phone is listing a usage time of 1hr 9min, and a standby of 50min, with a battery charge of 20%!!! This coupled with the fact that my phone was STILL GETTING WARM anytime it wasn't in standby mode. So I called 1-800-MY-APPLE and made an appointment to see one of the experts at the local store for tommorow at 3:00pm. I'll let you know how it goes, I'm hoping they will just hook me up with a new phone. I don't feel like waiting 2+weeks for a repair job that may or may not take. It seems ridiculous that a 3ft drop with virtually NO damage aside from a few tiny nicks in the back plate would compromise the iphone's battery power as thus...
