the problem here is not the software beign installed, but the way it is approached to the user, other annoyn thin is that quicktime comes with itunes, what if i only want one od the aforementioned programs?

apple has changed so much i can't hardly think of getting something from them, the're microsofthing little by little, so i'll just stick with a good choice and that woud be gnu, where i know exactly what am i getting

One of my bigger problems with the updater and iTunes is, that my computer fall into bluescreen after the software update. I can only fix it, if I start the computer without any plugged USB device. What a crap.

As far as I know I do not have "ANY" APPLE software running on my machine. If there is then it is sitting dormant.
Now I just received an apple screen popup on my computer saying;

Apple software update version 2.1.1 1.99MB

With NO explanation of what this is, what it will do or better yet........
"WHY AM I RECEIVING IT WHEN I DIDN'T ASK FOR IT???"

Now currently on my right I am cleaning my laptop of the nastiest virus I have seen in years which made it in through all of my security software. And what happens on my desktop....I receive a popup right through all my security software that I didn't ask for and do not see any need for.

I now see the need for both more security (new software) and a new outlook of almost complete untrusting of any company that PUSHES software on us. I don't like this but you just can't afford to blindly trust software of any kind these days unless YOU GO AND ASK OR LOOK FOR IT.

I totally agree here. i'm testing a webpage on a friend's computer here and since I've been on, I've had mcAffee ask me to update a subscription with two choices. "ask later" or "renew now". Where's my option for "NO!"

Veoh ask me to update my application. My only choice was "OK". I didn't have any other option.

This is constant for Windows users. It's amazing that the majority of the world uses the worst computer in the world.

This indeed is a very very nasty behaviour, but often practised by windows updates as well. I totally agree with you that this should stop, because it sucks!

I agree. I am in the process of removing Safari right now after I just clicked “install” without looking. What an annoying piece of crap… I decided to try it, for kicks, but was unimpressed after working with the new firefox. Imagine if every big company started doing this.

Another thing. Have you noticed that there is a “watchdog” somewhere that won’t let you kill AppleMobileDeviceService.exe from the task manager?

I think you’re right. Apple pushed Safari to millions of users, and this is wrong. People should have the choice of going onto their site and downloading it if they want it, and being a Mac user myself, I am sad to say that this isn’t a new story. This has happened before, and Apple should really work on their user-friendliness, and by this I mean not ease of use with their software, but ease of use on their customers..

Thank you for this article! I hated this “feature” so much that after googling for some solutions I was able to block that “update” from bothering me again. One can use the Tools menu in the Apple Software Update program to disable unwanted updates or installs.

All of you complaining about this should get a life.
Microsoft has done far far worse than this. Its about spreading the word. Come on guys! Business is about getting the word out and spreading what you’ve got to offer, using amy reasonable means. If you don’t want it, click the appropriate button!
Anybody who refutes this should read the history of Microsoft…

This “update” is Apple’s way of saying:
“Oh, while we are *UPDATING* your software for you… we are also (by default) going to also *ADD* new Apple software to your machine.”

I’m sure… in the future… Apple will slowly add more and more and more Apple software to your Windows machines.
