I loved this book. The historically true horrors and atrocities that were committed in the name of western expansion set on the backdrop of McCarthy's hauntingly beautiful and spiritual description of the disappearing frontier. An insane philosopher debating the meaning of life with men who have stared into the abyss, and the abyss stared back.
We are not all antic clay.

I was just going to put this on my amazon list when I suddenly realized that I've read it, quite a long time ago, on a lark. I don't remember the details of the book but I do remember how it left me feeling. The writing was thick and amazing. The story and characters felt completely naked to me. I remember being dazed by it for a long time after.
