The merging of the address bar and search bar in Chrome gives Google too much control over navigation. It separates companies and website operators from their website addresses and brands.
Companies spend heavily to establish and maintain brands. Google has just imposed itself between consumers and businesses. Direct navigation has now become proprietary search, whereby Google uses its discretion to filter out web addresses and domains that it deems less relevant.
I object and I hope you do too.

It was great to hear from you at the NOC office last night. I guess Robert and you are on the same wavelength on life with Chrome, and I totally agree with him that it's gonna be exciting for you guys. As much as I love Google, Chrome still has work to be done, and to me, the challenge is actually for Google to play catch up to Mozilla.

I don't think the merging of the address bar and the search bar give Google any more power then it has had when the two are separate. Because they both do the same thing when apart. For example when you mistype an address into the address bar you get a page of search terms. When running a search in your in your search bar you get a page of search. So in a way these tools are doing the same thing but have two different input options. I have been playing around with Chrome (I am a Linux admin and don't own a windows machine so this was just so I could test the browser) and the way that they have merged the search and address bar work in the same way that Firefox's search bar works, the only thing that it adds is search terms, so that you don't have to run another search.
If I'm not mistaken you can choose which search engine you want to give the search. So I'm not 100% sure if I understand why you feel this move gives them any more power the they already have.

When you come in Barcelone…please let's meet i want to introduce you the 1st Search Congress we are organising in january 2009. everybody is here, we are missing mozilla and firefox, so let you explain you why you might come, why you will like it and in what it's a different search marketing event, dinamic and fresh !!
