Slowing down my clock

It’s been a very busy past 45 days or so. I’ve been thinking a lot about changes & choices — and have a blog post brewing about that, maybe for later this week.

But right now, I’m trying to slow down my own clock speed, take my time, try to be a little more generative, to think bigger, more original thoughts. The last few years have been very operational — lots and lots of details, very quick pacing — it’s time for me to slow down, get a bigger framing. I’ve been taking some time off between Mozilla and Greylock — but it’s been the busiest time off I can ever remember. Moving out of our old house, getting it ready to sell; moving into our new house; having lots of family here for the holidays, on and on. Lots of motion lately.

Today’s the first day I really feel like I’m on break — nothing more scheduled than a little puttering around the house, going for a run in a bit, and generally getting ready to watch the Orange Bowl tonight. I’m going to also try turning off my Google Reader and Twitter & Facebook checking for a week or two, also. I’ve got two weeks more at home, then really start my time at Greylock in earnest. In that time period, I also turn 40, an arbitrary milestone, to be sure, but something to reflect on.

We live in very, very, very interesting times. More things are changing, quickly, about how we live our lives and interact with each other than I’ve ever experienced in my life. It’s a time of incredible, incredible opportunity (and one of very significant social and technical challenges, for sure). I’m really excited to have a bit of time to start 2011 to slow down, try to think longer term, and to slow down my clock.

Happy 2011!
